GOMOTT, for the uninformed, stands for Greater Orlando Mothers of Twins and Triplets (quad and quint moms are also welcomed). The motto is ‘God’s Love Multiplied’ and all the attending moms did seem very blessed to have their multiples. Some phrases uttered: “When I first found out I was pregnant with twins, I was terrified…but now I can’t imagine it anyother way!”…and from a mom who first had a singleton pregnancy, then became pregnant with twins 2 years later: “I would never want to have just one again- it’s just so much better having 2 at once!” (not that one really has a choice in the matter).
In any event, the meeting was both informative and….scary. Us newbies had out own little group for the first hour or so. We were joined by a few older member and the new moms and seasoned alike warned that the first 6 months is extremely difficult and one can’t expect more than about 3 hours of sleep in any given night. Also stressed was how essential meticulous prenatal care is because you DO NOT want your babies born prematurely and we must avoid this dilemma at all costs. Some told stories of how their babies were born at 27 or 31 weeks, faced multiple problems as a result, and had a long stay in the NICU (but later turned out fine). Apparently there is more to worry about than I'd even realized...
